ZAMFARA ASSEMBLY SUSPENDS ERECTION OF ILLEGAL STRUCTURES ON GOVT BUILDINGS
Zamfara State House of Assembly suspended the on going erection of illegal structures attached to government buildings across the state.
This is contained in a statement issued in by the Director General Press Affairs and Public Relations, Mustafa Jafaru-Kaura in Gusau.
Jafaru-Kaura said the state house of assembly expressed dismay over the attitude of some government officials for indiscriminate allocation and erection of illegal structures attached to government buildings and reserved areas in the state without due process.
“The assembly in its plenary passed a resolution suspending the continuation of all such illegal structures in the state.
“This followed a motion earlier moved by the Deputy Majority Leader of the house, Nasir Bello-Lawal (APC, Bungudu West),’’ he said.
He said that Bello-Lawal mentioned different locations in Gusau where such illegality existed adding that most government reserved areas had been turned to plazas and market places.
According to him, such illegal act exists only in Zamfara state compared to states like Sokoto, Kano and Kaduna.
“After various deliberations by the lawmakers who contributed to the motion, the house unanimously supported the motion.

The Speaker Nasiru Magarya directed its committee on Lands, Housing and Town Planning to immediately swing into action to fully investigate the legality or otherwise of such indiscriminate erection of such structures and report back to the house in two months.
Magarya ordered the house committee to investigate all the matter using the following terms of reference:
“To determine the existence of Gusau master plan and strategic infrastructural plan and whether the Master plan can be adhered to from inception till date.
“How many and which agencies are involved in the management and Administration of lands and Master plan implementation and what necessitated the evolution of illegal structures in government owned reserved areas as enumerated in this motion.
“Identify Agencies involved in land Racketeering (if any) and to identify how illegal street naming is evolved,’’ Jafaru-Kaura explained.
He further recommended to the House the action to be taken to curb the future occurrences of these problems as identified in the contents of the motion.
In the same sitting, the house also passed a bill to establish a law for the State Anti Corruption Commission.
Also during the plenary the bill for a law to establish State College of Legal and Islamic Studies Gummi and for other matters 2021, has scaled its first reading.’’ he added.
