Security: Police solicits cooperation of journalists in Kebbi
Mr. Adeleke Adeyinka Bode, the new Commissioner of Police in Kebbi State, has solicited for media cooperation in order to strengthen security, and maintain peace and unity in the state.
Bode made the call in Birnin Kebbi on Monday when he paid a familiarization visit to members of the state Correspondents’ Chapel.
He urged the journalists to support the command with vital information that would help in preventing and curbing criminal activities in the state.

According to him, the collaboration would help in wiping out criminal activities, and also go a long way in publicising the activities and success of the command to the public.
“I want our partnership to be strengthened in order to maintain and tackle criminal activities in the state.
“It is through you that we get members of the public to be educated on what they need for the security, and what they need to do, to collaborate with the police in securing them.
“It is also your job to inform members of the public on our activities which will assist them directly or indirectly to know what they will do,” he said.
Bode urged the media practitioners to adhere strictly to their professional ethics in the interest of peace and national development.
He also called on members of the public to feed the police with relevant information by exposing criminal elements in the interest of peace and for development to thrive.
The commissioner of police, who thanked the journalists for their role in securing the state, restated his commitment to develop more strategies of strengthening peace and wiping out criminal elements in the state.
Responding, the Acting Chairman of the chapel,Alhaji Kabiru Dogondaji,who appreciated the commission for the visit, pledged to extend all the necessary cooperation and support to the police to keep the state safe.
He said: “It is paramount to note that Correspondents’ Chapel of the NUJ is the life wire of journalism profession, we thank you for the recognition and we are partners in progress.
“Therefore, as a union, we will do everything possible to support the police by playing our role of enlightening the public.
“I want a situation where the chapel, the police and the general public work in harmony.”
Contributing separately, Aliyu Hammagan of Daily Trust and Abdullahi Tukur of Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), lauded the good working relationship between the media and Public Relations unit of Kebbi Police command.
They, however, appealed to the new Commissioner to step up efforts toward organising press conferences as against issuing press releases in events of public interest.
