NDE trains 25 unemployed graduates in solar power installations in Kebbi

The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) began the training of 25 unemployed graduates in Birnin-Kebbi on Monday on solar power installation and maintenance.

NDE’s Director-General, Alhaji Abubakar Nuhu-Fipko, said at the opening that the training was being conducted in collaboration with the Abuja Graduate School.

He said it would equip the trainees with the needed skills to become self-employed and also to become employers of labour.

Nuhu-Fikpo was represented at the occasion by the State Coordinator of the NDE in Kebbi, Mr Ambianto Amos-Francis.

He described solar energy as one of the alternatives to boost power supply in the country.

“The NDE found that solar installation is a lucrative business in which people can make a living.

“We have 25 beneficiary graduates out of which four are women; most of the graduates have science background.

“They will be trained for one week after which they will go for three months industrial attachment,’’ he said.

Nuhu-Fipko noted that selection of the trainees was a privilege and admonished them to be focused so as to become self- reliant and become employers of labour.

He urged the trainees to be diligent, stressing that white collar jobs were difficult to get.

Some of the trainees expressed appreciation at the opportunity and promised to use the training to become self-reliant and also become employers of labour.
