Harmattan: Borno, Adamawa, Yobe strengthen fire service
As part of measures to effectively contain fire incidents, the Governments of Borno, Adamawa and Yobe have embarked on measures to strengthen the fire services in their respective states.
In Borno that recorded fire outbreak in some markets, Gov. Babagana Zulum who visited the state fire service on the issue, lauded them for efforts in containing fire outbreaks.
Zulum directed the state fire service to forward all its needs to government for necessary action to enhance its capacity to prevent and contain fire outbreaks.

He rewarded the 149 personnel of the state and federal fire service that participated in containing one of the outbreaks at Gamboru market with N100,000 cash and a bag of rice each for their swift response to the incident.
He also directed the employment of 30 volunteer firemen by the state fire service to boost the service staff strength.
In Yobe, the Executive Director of the state Fire Service Board, Alhaji Jauro Umaru, said the service has refurbished nine fire trucks and trained 257 personnel for effective response to emergencies.
Umaru said the service has also embarked on public enlightenment on fire incident, inspection of equipment and enforcement of fire safety regulations in collaboration with sister agencies.

He urged the public to take precautionary measures like ensuring electrical safety, clearing their environment, acquiring fire extinguishers and proper disposing of flammable materials.
In Adamawa, the state Chief Fire Officer, Alhaji Abdullahi Adamu, said 25 staff of the service had undergone training on fire protection techniques at the Kano Fire Fighting Training College.
“We have also equipped our Zonal offices located in Numan, Mubi, Gombi and Michika towns for effective and wider coverage of the state.
“Each of the offices had been allocated a functional fire fighting vehicle and competent staff,” Adamu said.
