Chairman Sokoto Security Guard Committee, Col. Moyi  Rtrd  Resigns

Less than a week after his appointment and inauguration as the chairman, Sokoto Community Guard Committee  Col Garba Moyi RTD has resigned.

Moyi, a three times  Commissioner for Security and career studies in the state disclosed this in a press conference at the Nigerian Union of Journalists secretariat,  Sokoto.

Moyi who was a former chairman of Isa local government said he decided to resign his appointment following social media post going viral which he said was targeted at his personality.

“I served the country till I voluntary retired as a Colonel after which I joined politics to serve as the chairman of my local government he stated.

“I also serve as the state Commissioner for security and career studies on three different occasions until I resigned during the past administration without any blemish he added.

“It is however unfortunate that some people can doctored video and start circulating on social media to tarnish my image, I think the best is for me to resigned the appointment”

He however commend the state governor, Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, for finding him worthy for the appointment

It has been recalled that Governor   Ahmed Aliyu has constituted a 25-member committee for the establishment of State Community Guards, aimed at strengthening support for security agencies’ operations against security challenges in the state.

The proposed Community Guards, Thisday learnt may have been informed by the recent meeting held in Katsina State on the spate of insecurity associated with bandit attacks, kidnappings and other sundry crimes threatening the State and other North-West states.

The committee, saddled with five terms of reference, is to be chaired by retired Colonel Garba Moyi, with Yusha’u Ahmed Kebbe as Vice Chairman while Barrister Gandi Umar Mohammed and the Director Security, Cabinet Office, will serve as Secretary and Assistant Secretary, respectively.

The terms of reference include, to advise on the modalities of the establishment of the Security Guards, recruitment and training of personnel into the Guards, to ensure a smooth take-off of the community guards and to sanitize the communities across the 23 LGAs of the State on the establishment of the community guards and to recommend on the composition, powers and functions of the community guards, among others.

Meanwhile the governor’s approval for the establishment of the panel did not specify a timeframe within which the committee is to complete its assignment and submit its report.
