Lake Chad Basin: MNJTF Record Major Victories in the War on Terror
…as scores of terrorists laydown arms
The Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) has announced a string of triumphs in their battle against terrorism, with Operation Nashrul Salam leading to a surge in surrenders by insurgents.
These recent victories were unveiled during a cordial meeting between the Force Commander, Major General Ibrahim Sallau Ali, and the Chief of Defence Staff of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, General Christopher Musa.
Major General Ali revealed that a growing number of terrorists have recently renounced violence and laid down their weapons in Chad, Cameroon, and Nigeria, marking a significant turning point in the anti-insurgency operations across the region. He praised the Nigerian Armed Forces for their steadfast support of the MNJTF in its tireless campaign against terrorism.
Furthermore, the Force Commander highlighted the MNJTF’s intensified efforts to aid local communities in their recovery through a series of Quick Impact Projects. In a recent initiative in Sector 3 Monguno-Nigeria, more than eight communities benefited from thirty-five projects spanning the water, education, and health sectors.
Responding to these encouraging developments, General Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff, expressed gratitude for the MNJTF’s unwavering commitment to stabilizing the Lake Chad region, underscoring its vital economic significance for the neighboring nations.
General Musa emphasized the need to continue supporting the MNJTF in achieving its mandate and pledged further assistance to ensure the force’s continued success in the fight against terrorism.
Operation Nashrul Salam, a non-kinetic operation of the MNJTF, has been instrumental in persuading terrorists to embrace peace and renounce violence in the Lake Chad area. This approach reflects a strategic shift towards addressing the root causes of conflict and promoting sustainable peace in the region.
The operation’s success in encouraging surrenders from insurgents in multiple countries is a testament to the effectiveness of this non-violent approach in countering terrorism and fostering stability.
