Suspected insurgents blow up 2 330KVA power towers in Yobe

203

Suspected Boko Haram insurgents have blown up two 330KVA power transmission towers in Damaturu, Yobe State, for the second time in three months.

Confirming the attack, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, the Police Spokesman in the state, said the incident occurred at Kasaisa in Damaturu.

He said the insurgents used improvised explosive devices to blow up the facilities in the early hours of Saturday.

Abdulkarim said destruction of the power line, which supplies electricity from Gombe to Yobe and Borno, had plunged residents of the two states into blackout.

Our correspondent reports that two other 330KVA power transmission towers were also destroyed by the insurgents at Kasaisa in December.

The facilities were repaired by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) in January before the latest attack.
