In a bid to foster cooperation and strengthen inter-agency collaboration, the newly appointed Commissioner of Police for the FCT Command, CP Benneth C Igweh, paid a courtesy visit today, March 5, to the Commander of the Guards Brigade, Brigadier General AO Onasanya, at the Brigade Headquarters in Aguyi Ironsi Cantonment Asokoro.
The purpose of the visit was to establish a harmonious working relationship with sister security agencies in the Commissioner’s area of responsibility. CP Igweh, in his opening remarks, emphasized the importance of seeking the support of the Guards Brigade in ensuring robust security measures and enforcing law and order within the Federal Capital Territory as he assumes his new role.
Having previously collaborated with the Nigerian Army in various capacities, CP Igweh acknowledged the Guards Brigade as a reliable partner in addressing operational challenges. He expressed his desire for increased support from the Brigade, responsible for securing the first family and the FCT environs, to effectively fulfill his duties as Commissioner.
The Commissioner thanked the Commander for the warm reception and conveyed the Federal Capital Territory Police Command’s eagerness to establish a more proactive and collaborative partnership with the men and officers of the Guards Brigade. This visit signifies a step towards enhancing security efforts and promoting a safer environment within the nation’s capital.
In his remarks, the Commander of the Guards Brigade, Brigadier General Adebisi Onasanya, expressed appreciation for the new Commissioner and his team, congratulating him on his well-deserved appointment. He emphasized that since assuming command, there has been a significant improvement in security in the FCT and its surrounding areas, which serves as a testament to the Commissioner’s effectiveness in such a critical role.
General Onasanya reassured the team of the Brigade’s support whenever needed, underscoring that the officers and personnel of the Brigade will continue to collaborate closely as a cohesive unit. He extended best wishes for a successful tenure in command.
The visit’s highlights included the formalities of signing the visitor’s register, exchanging souvenirs, and capturing group photographs. The event was attended by Staff Officers of the Brigade, as well as the Commissioner and his accompanying group.
