Military Rescues Abducted Almajiris, Intensifies Efforts Against Terrorism in Nigeria

In a remarkable display of swift action and coordination, the Nigerian military, in collaboration with local authorities and government agencies, successfully rescued 16 kidnapped pupils, known as Almajiris, and a woman who were abducted by terrorists in Gada Local Government Area of Sokoto State on March 9, 2024.

In a statement, Director Defence Media Operations Major General Edward Buba said, the hostages were safely rescued on March 21, 2024, and have been handed over to the Sokoto State Government for further necessary actions.

General Buba conveyed the pledge of the Armed Forces of Nigeria to continue their exhaustive efforts to locate other innocent hostages and apprehend the perpetrators of these heinous crimes. Vowing to relentlessly pursue the terrorists responsible, Buba averred that the military is committed to ensuring that they are arrested, tried, and brought to justice under Nigerian law.

In a related development, troops are intensifying their operations to track down those responsible for the brutal killings of 18 soldiers in Okuama Community, Delta State, on March 14, 2024. This proactive approach aims to disrupt the activities of terrorists and other perpetrators of insecurity nationwide. To aid in these efforts, the military has issued a series of banners featuring wanted terrorists and their associates.

These banners, Buba said will be strategically placed across the country to facilitate the swift identification and apprehension of the wanted individuals. The public is urged to cooperate with authorities, provide any relevant information, and report any sightings promptly.

He noted that the he collective effort of law enforcement and citizens is crucial in ensuring the safety and security of all Nigerians.
