In a decisive operation spanning multiple states, the Nigerian military successfully rescued 137 hostages, comprising 76 females and 61 males, who were abducted from LEA School Kuriga in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The rescue mission, according to the Director Defence Media Operations Major General Edward Buba conducted in collaboration with local authorities and government agencies, culminated in the safe recovery of the hostages in Zamfara State.

The daring operation marked a swift response to the distressing events that unfolded on 7 March 2024 when terrorists invaded the school premises, unleashing chaos and abducting an unconfirmed number of pupils. Determined to leave no stone unturned, the military vowed to spare no effort until all hostages were safely rescued.

Notably, this successful rescue comes on the heels of another operation on 21 March 2024, where troops rescued 16 pupils, including Almajiris, and a woman who were held hostage in Gada Local Government Area of Sokoto State. These rescued individuals were promptly handed over to the Sokoto State Government, underscoring the collaborative efforts to combat terrorism and secure the release of innocent victims.

Buba said, commitment of the armed forces to locate and rescue hostages, as well as apprehend the perpetrators behind these heinous acts, remains resolute. The ongoing efforts to bring justice to those responsible for the killings of 18 soldiers in Delta State further exemplify the military’s dedication to upholding security and safeguarding the lives of civilians across the nation.
