Out Break Of Gastroenteritis : 2 die ,70 Hospitalise As Government Closes School

Due to the outbreak of Gastroenteritis at Government Girl College , Sokoto that led to the death of 2, two students and 70 hospitalized , Sokoto State Government has order the closure of the school with immediate effect .

Briefing newsmen at conference hall of the ministry on Friday commissioner for Science and Technology in the state Hajia Kulu Abubakar Haruna said Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has directed that the school should be closed with immediate effect.

Hajia Kulu disclosed that when the ministry got the wind of the outbreak of the disease it contacted the ministry of Health immediately.

She added that if not for the timely intervention of the ministry of health the death rate could have been more than two.

“When we got the report we contacted the ministry of health and they sent Doctors and Nurses who work tirelessly to ensure the situation is salvage.

“The Doctors and Nurses posted to the school did a wonderful job if not we could have recorded more than two death she stated

The commissioner stated that out of 70 isolated 50 have been treated and discharged .

When answering questions whether it is as a result of poor water system and over crowding the commissioner said the commissioner of water resources ensure that all the water used in the schools are portable.

It has has been recalled that Sokoto State Government merged the schools at the borderlines with those in the town for the fear of bandits attack which overpopulated the metropolitan schools.
