The gesture was made through a Philanthropist and founder of “AUG Foundation for Privileged and Orphans, Abdulhafiz Umar Barau.

An official of the foundation, Abdul Bala Gusau who performed the distribution on Thursday, said the gesture aimed to providing succour to the poorest of poor in the society.

Bala Gusau said, 40 patients including nursing mothers and vulnerable women received treatments in Shagari Hospital, Gusau as well as financial assistance of N5,000 each.

“Apart from the financial assistance, we also procured drugs worth millions of Naira for free distribution to the patients admitted in the hospital.

“We learned that due to the current economic hardship in the country, many patients from vulnerable families can no longer take care of their hospital bills.

“Many of these patients receiving treatment are suffering from various health challenges and it is difficult for them to pay their medical bills,” he said.

He noted that the AUG foundation in collaboration with many charity organisations is coming up with more interventions to further provide assistance to the vulnerable groups.

An official of the hospital, Yazid Garba described the gesture as a cheering development and appealed to other privileged Nigerians help assist the poor.

Garba said the drugs were given to the patients according to their demands in-line with the doctor’s prescription
