WOLNY Hails Yobe State Govt’s Protection Of Protesters’ Rights
The Women-led Network of Yobe Civil Society Organizations in Yobe State WOLNY has expressed appreciation to the Yobe State Government for its efforts in protecting the rights of citizens.
Barrister Altine Ibrahim, Chairperson of WOLNY revealed in a statement made available to newsmen in Damaturu. According to her, “The recent peaceful demonstrations have been a testament to the government’s respect for freedom of expression and assembly, enshrined in the fundamental human rights provision under our constitution.
“The peaceful environment provided by the government has allowed citizens to voice their concerns without fear of repression. This approach not only strengthens our democratic values but also fosters a sense of trust and cooperation between the government and the people.
While we applaud the government’s stance on protecting the rights of its citizens, we also urge the state authorities to match their words with concrete actions in addressing the demands raised by the protesters. It is essential that the concerns of the citizens are not only heard but also acted upon promptly and effectively.”
She added, “We call on the Yobe State Government to engage in constructive Dialogue: Initiate and maintain open channels of communication with people to understand their grievances fully and explore viable solutions.
“Implement Reforms*: Take tangible steps towards implementing the necessary reforms that address the core issues raised by the people. This includes but is not limited to improvements in governance, social services, and economic opportunities.
“Monitor and Report Progress. Establish a transparent mechanism for monitoring and reporting the progress of actions taken in response to the citizen’s demands. Regular updates will help build trust and accountability.”

Others are “Ensure Continue Protection of Citizens’ Rights: Maintain the protection of the rights of all citizens to express their views.
“This commitment must be unwavering and consistent in all future interactions. We believe that by taking these steps, the Yobe State Government can set a positive example for other states and further solidify its commitment to democracy and good governance.
“Once again, we extend our gratitude to the Yobe State Government for its efforts thus far and remain hopeful for continued progress in addressing the legitimate concerns of the people.”
