Zamfara Zakkat and Endowment Board has distributed N60 million and 3,000 (10kg) bags of rice to 3,000 needy across 19 emirates of the state, an official disclosed.

A total of 100 persons were carefully selected from each emirates except Gusau emirate that presented 200 beneficiaries due its high population.

The Voice Media Trust (VMT NEWS) reports that the disbursement was carried out by the Office of the First Lady in collaboration with Zakkat and Endowment Board in the state.

Speaking at the event to close up the four-day distribution exercise held in Gusau on Saturday, the Governor’s Wife, Hajiya Huriyya Lawal described the four days tour to distribute cash and rice to the needy of 19 emirates of the state as memorable.

She said Zakkat and Endowment Board had discharged its mandate with caution and in accordance with the rules of Sharia in consideration of the magnitude of Zakkat distribution in Islam.

“The selection of 3,000 beneficiaries was carried out in accordance with the principles of Islam, 100 persons from each of the 18 Emirates and 200 from Gusau,” she said.

The governor’s wife commended the staff of Zakkat and Endowment Board for their resilience in collection and distribution of cash and other items to the needy.

The first lady also extended her appreciation to all the Emirs for their support and cooperation to the board throughout the disbursement exercise.

She lauded the beneficiaries for their patience, decorum, and orderly conduct during the distribution process.

While urging the citizens to continue to pray for the success of Gov. Dauda Lawal, the governor’s wife assured that more programmes were underway.

In his remarks, the Chairman, Zakkat and Endowment Board, Mallam Umar Kanoma appreciated the support and encouragement of the state government which he said, had paved way for the smooth disbursement exercise.

He called on Muslim Ummah to give out Zakkat from their wealth in fulfilment of Allah’s instruction, adding that: “Zakkat is obligatory on the following, so long as they reach ‘Nisab’: money, asset, animals and farm produce.”

Kanoma advised that apart from discharging the obligatory aspect of Islam (Zakkat), people with surplus should consider the current economic scourge and assist the needy to ease their life. (NAN)
