Lagos City Marathon to celebrate 10th anniversary in style
The Access Bank Lagos City Marathon will celebrate its 10th anniversary on Feb. 15, with organisers promising an unforgettable sporting spectacle.
Director General, National Sports Commission (NSC) Bukola Olopade, gave the pledge in a statement on Wednesday by his media aide, Kola Daniels.
Olapade said the event would feature elite athletes, amateur runners, and fitness enthusiasts.
He noted that since its inception, the Gold Label race had attracted 600,000 registered athletes from 14 countries, solidifying its status as one of Africa’s premier road races.
He described the milestone edition as the most exciting in the marathon’s history.
“Over the past decade, runners have collectively covered an astonishing 42,000 kilometres, reinforcing the marathon’s significance in the global athletics calendar.
“This year’s event has more sponsors, including Access Bank, Casio, Airtel, Lagos State Government, World Athletics, 7Up, Rexona, and Unilever, increasing prize money and international prestige.

The Access Bank Lagos City Marathon Expo, running from Feb. 3-13, will include fitness activities, brand activations, and exhibitions, creating excitement ahead of race day.
According to Olapade, fans will enjoy live performances by top artists at the finish line, ensuring an electric atmosphere beyond the competition itself.
“With excitement reaching fever pitch, Lagos is ready to host one of Africa’s biggest sporting celebrations.
“Whether as runners, spectators, or supporters, everyone will play a role in making this event a historic moment,” he said.
