Speaking during a meeting with Mr. Linus Gubbi, the newly appointed Resident Anti-Corruption Commissioner of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) for Borno and Yobe states, Governor Buni highlighted the success of the state’s Bureau on Public Procurement.

He explained that its independence from government influence has significantly reduced over-invoicing, improved contract award processes, and curbed the misuse of public resources.

“The Bureau on Public Procurement, by operating independently, has fostered greater transparency and accountability within our governance,” the Governor stated.

He also credited the oversight provided by the Yobe State House of Assembly’s committees for enhancing accountability in government operations.

Governor Buni attributed the state’s ability to deliver impactful, people-centered projects to its prudent financial management.

He welcomed the ICPC’s commendation, stating it would motivate the government to strengthen its commitment to transparency, accountability, and anti-corruption measures further.

He also directed all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to collaborate with the ICPC in training finance officers to eliminate financial leakages.

Commissioner Gubbi, during his visit, explained that his tour aimed to promote preventive measures and public awareness in the fight against corruption. He urged Governor Buni to establish Anti-Corruption and Transparency Units within MDAs to support the ICPC’s efforts.

He also congratulated the Governor on the awards received by Yobe State for its transparency and accountability, including those from the State Fiscal Transparency, Accountability and Sustainability (SFTAS) program, a World Bank initiative, and the Association of Public Procurement Practitioners of Nigeria.

The statement was released by Mamman Mohammed, Director-General of Press and Media Affairs to the Governor.
