 Building Bridges: TETFund and FRSC Forge Partnership Towards a Safer and More Educated Nigeria

The Executive Secretary of TETFund, Arc. Sonny Echono, welcomed the Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Malam Shehu Mohammed with his delegation on a courtesy visit to TETFund headquarters in Abuja today.

The visit was designed to foster collaboration and explore potential partnerships between TETFund and FRSC for safer and more educated Nigeria.

TETFund’s Presentation:

During the visit a video presentation highlighted TETFund’s role in improving the quality of Tertiary Education in Nigeria. Established as the Education Tax Fund, it evolved to provide supplemental support to universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education. The fund is primarily financed by a 2% education tax levied on the assessable profits of companies registered in Nigeria.

The presentation showcased TETFund’s various intervention lines, including infrastructure development, ICT support, scholarship programs, and research funding. They emphasized their commitment to promoting cutting-edge technologies and fostering collaborations with international institutions.

FRSC’s Response:

The Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Malam Shehu Mohammed, expressed appreciation for TETFund’s work and acknowledged their significant contributions to the educational sector.

He highlighted the FRSC’s own mandate of ensuring road safety in Nigeria and noted the progress made in reducing road accidents.

He then went on to speak in depth about the FRSC’s work, and the successes they have had. He talked about how they are working to reduce fatalities on the road, through both education, and technology. He also spoke about how they were working to create a national road safety strategy.
