Ohinoyi of Ebiraland pledges support for girls’ education in Kogi
The Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, Alhaji Tijjani Ahmed-Anaje, has pledged support for the implementation of the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) project in Kogi.
Ohinoyi gave the assurance when the AGILE team led by the State Project Coordinator, Dr Bello Abdulhakeem, paid him an advocacy visit in Okene, Okene Local Government Area of Kogi.
The traditional ruler emphasised the prohect’s importance in improving education and empowerment opportunities for young girls in the state.
The royal father commended the initiative, describing it as a transformative step toward enhancing access to quality education, particularly for adolescent girls in Ebiraland and Kogi at large.
Ahmed-Anaje expressed his appreciation for government’s commitment to addressing challenges that hinder the education and empowerment of young girls, ensuring they have a brighter future.
He urged community members, parents, and stakeholders to embrace the project wholeheartedly.
The Ohinoyi stressed the need for collective effort in ensuring its success, noting that the education of girls is fundamental to the progress of society.
“The AGILE project is not just a policy; it is a vision for the future of our daughters and our land.
“Education remains the bedrock of development, and no society can truly advance if its girls are left behind. I urge our people to support this initiative fully.
“I assure you that we will take active steps to sensitise other royal fathers across Ebiraland, ensuring the message reaches every corner of the region,” Ohinoyi said.
Earlier, Abdulhakeem, expressed gratitude for the royal endorsement, emphasising that the support of traditional institutions was crucial for the success of the initiative.
The coordinator noted that the project is aimed at removing barriers that prevent adolescent girls from accessing and completing secondary education, especially in rural communities.
Abdulhakeem emphasised that with the backing of the Ohinoyi and other traditional leaders, AGILE project’s awareness would significantly increase.

“The role of our royal fathers in community development cannot be overstated.
“With your support, we can accelerate the implementation of AGILE and bring lasting change to the lives of young girls in Kogi,” Abdulhakeem added.
VMT NEWS reports that AGILE project is a World Bank assisted project of the Federal Ministry of Education geared at improving secondary education opportunities for adolescent girls aged between 10 and 20.
The project is meant to improve secondary education opportunities in the implementing states by tackling these challenges, thus making education more appealing to adolescent girls, parents, communities, and institutions.
The AGILE was initially implemented in seven states of Borno, Ekiti, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, and Plateau in 2022.
The additional 11 states to join the project are Adamawa, Bauchi, Gombe, Jigawa, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger, Sokoto, Yobe and Zamfara.
