Yobe media team reaffirms commitment to family planning

The Yobe Family Planning Media Team has reiterated its commitment to addressing gaps in reproductive health awareness and promoting family planning in the state.

Mr Mustapha Musa, Chairman of the Media Team, made the statement on Wednesday in Damaturu following a meeting aimed at developing the 2025 strategic work plan.

Musa noted that the team, supported by The Challenge Initiative (TCI) and Development Communications (DevCom), reviewed its successes, challenges, and lessons learned while strategising to enhance advocacy efforts.

He pointed out that misconceptions and misinformation rooted in certain religious beliefs have significantly hindered the acceptance of family planning in the state.

“In our engagements, we have observed that these misconceptions play a major role in the low uptake of family planning services.

“Our 2025 plan will focus on addressing these issues through accurate information and sensitisation campaigns,” he said.

As part of efforts to strengthen the team’s leadership, Musa announced the election of Hajiya Hauwa Hassan of Yobe State Television (YTV) as Vice Chairman and Ahmed Abba of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) as Public Relations Officer.

He expressed optimism that the restructured leadership would enhance advocacy and media engagements, ensuring wider acceptance of family planning in Yobe.

The Voice Media Trust (VMT NEWS) reports that the Yobe Family Planning Media Team has been at the forefront of public sensitisation on reproductive health.

The team has been actively collaborating with government agencies and development partners.

Their efforts aim to improve access to family planning services across the state.
