Ramadan : NGO harps on inter religious harmony

A non governmental Organization Youths For Resolution and Peace Building Initiative, has stressed the need for interreligious harmony for societal peaceful coexistence among the faithfuls.

Speaking at a maiden Ramadan Fasting breakfast organised by the NGO at the palace of District Head, Acting Director, Malam Abubakar Mailato, said the move was aimed at promoting religious tolerance throughout Nigeria, and in Niger Republic and other neighbouring countries.

Mailato said the breakfast was a testimony of how NGO’s moves is being accepted as the exercise was attended by Christian and Muslim leaders residents of Sokoto irrespective of different religious background.

He said the breakfast was supported by individuals and district head and described it as successful in recognition of remarks made by individuals and groups leaders on the need for increased brotherhoods among Nigerians.

Also speaking Sokoto-based Islamic Scholar, Sheikh Aminu Sufi, described the breakfast as right step in right direction which would surely fastened relationship between Muslins and other Faith’s.

Sufi emphasized the need repeating of such events beyond Ramadan period in consideration of it’s value to hardnessing peaceful coexistence.

He stressed that crime perpetrators and peoples with bad attitudes as well bad manners does not reflect the teachings of all religions.

He called for more understanding, tolerance and synergy among adherents of religions toward eradicating security challenges and other ugly activities bedevilling the nation.

A Christian Leader, Rev. Nuhu Bala, commended the organizers of the event noting that it would further strengthen peaceful co-existence and ties, religious tolerance, and forgiveness.

Bala said the programme would spread the message of peace and unity and encourage Nigerians to shun all forms of ethno-religious, political and regional differences.

“We came with clerics this time so as to build good relationship with Muslims and our religious teachers.

We love our Muslim neighbours; that is why we are here to join them in celebrating the Ramadan fasting breao and to urge them to rededicate their lives to the worship of Allah,’’ he said.

He said Nigeria need every stakeholder to join hands in praying for peace and stability of the country.

In his remark the District head of Gagi Umar Jabbi said the move for Muslims and non Muslims to come together for Ramadan breakfast is aimed at strengthening the bond of friendship and promotion of unity among different faith based organization in the state.

He stressed that this would help in tackling religious extremism and hatred among Sokoto State citizens.

Umar-Jabbi emphasised that joining Muslims in breaking Ramadan fast did not change his religion, and encouraged other Christian leaders to find ways of strengthening interfaith activities.

“God created us to be in relationship with all human beings irrespective of his or her tribe, culture, religion, colour, size, region and continent,” he said.
