Yobe Hisbah seizes 209 cartons of alcohol, shuts down brothel

The Yobe State Hisbah Commission, in a joint operation with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, (NDLEA), and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC), has confiscated 209 cartons of alcohol and shut down a brothel in Damaturu.

Chairman Hisbah Commission, Dr. Yahuza Abubakar, disclosed during a press briefing while detailing the agency’s recent crackdown on prohibited substances and immoral activities.

According to Abubakar, the operation targeted a Golf vehicle (with license plate ABJ-144-SC) loaded with the seized alcohol at Maina Lodge. A subsequent search of the lodge’s VIP Room 07 single uncovered an additional 34 bottles of alcohol.

“The lodge has been temporarily closed pending the conclusion of investigations to identify the driver and individuals responsible for smuggling the contraband into the state,” the Hisbah Chairman said.

In a related operation, the Commission, with NSCDC’s support and the Yobe State Road Traffic Agency (YOROTA), raided Garin Alkali community, where 34 bottles of alcohol were seized.

“The commission responded to a distress call from Waziri Ibrahim community, leading to the closure of a residential building allegedly used for prostitution.

“The property has been shut for three months pending further investigation”, the Chairman said.

He said these operations carried out by the commission underscored its commitment to upholding moral standards and combating illicit activities in the state.

The Hisbah Chairman noted that investigations into the incidents were ongoing.
