Clarification On The Collapsed Part Of FG-Constructed Keffi Flyover

The public will recall the recent incident of the collapse of a part of Keffi flyover in Keffi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State when a heavy-duty truck carrying an oversized container struck the bridge, dislodging beams and causing part of the structure to cave in and leading to its partial closure by the Federal Ministry of Works to prevent further damage and ensure public safety.

It is observed that, following this unfortunate development, there has been misleading Online media reports suggesting that the flyover is that of the Nasarawa State Government under construction by the Engineer Abdullahi A. Sule-led administration in Keffi. We are also dismayed by the deliberate falsehood and misinformation in some quarters that the said incident occured at the Lafia flyover recently commissioned by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. It is against this backdrop that this clarification has become necessary.

While it is true that the flyover is sited in Keffi-Nasarawa state, it should be noted that the project was executed more than twenty (20) years ago by the Federal Government of Nigeria falls under the jurisdiction of the Federal Ministry of Works. It is therefore needless to emphasize that the Federal Government is responsible for the management, maintenance and repair of the flyover. As a matter of fact, the State Government’s flyover project recently flagged off for construction by Governor Abdullahi A. Sule is currently at the clearing stage, hence cannot be said to have collapsed.

We commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR for the swift response and the leading efforts to assess the damage, ensure public safety, and plan for immediate repairs. The recent visit to the Keffi flyover by a delegation from the Federal Ministry of Works, headed by the Honourable Minister, Mr. David Umahi to assess the damage and determine necessary steps for repair truly demonstrates President Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda.

The Nasarawa State Government remains committed at supporting all efforts by the Federal Ministry of Works to address the situation and ensure safety on federal roads in the State.

At this juncture, we wish to seize  this opportunity to extend the heartfelt condolences of the State Government to families of those that loss their lives in the tragic incident while also praying for the speedy recovery of the injured victims.
