Yobe State Government Absorbs Hundreds of Healthcare Workers, Approves Billions in Infrastructure and Agricultural Investments
The Yobe State Government, under the leadership of Governor Mai Mala Buni, has announced the absorption of 422 healthcare workers into the state’s system, a significant step towards strengthening maternal and child health services.
The approval, granted during a State Executive Council meeting on July 30, 2025, includes 110 midwives, 54 Community Health Extension Workers (CHEWs), and 258 Community-Based Health Workers.

These individuals were previously engaged under the Maternal Mortality Reduction Innovation Initiative (MAMII), launched in November 2024, to improve maternal healthcare in the high-burden local government areas of Bade, Jakusko, Nangere, Yusufari, and Bursari.
Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr. Muhammad Lawan Gana, emphasized Governor Buni’s commitment to reducing maternal mortality and enhancing healthcare in underserved communities.
Commissioner of Home Affairs, Information and Culture, Hon. Abdullahi Bego, highlighted healthcare as a top priority for the administration, noting Yobe State’s continued recognition for its healthcare advancements at the national level.

Beyond the healthcare appointments, the State Executive Council meeting, chaired by Deputy Governor Hon. Idi Barde Gubana, approved substantial investments across various sectors:
* **Healthcare Infrastructure and Equipment:** ₦1.43 billion for construction works in health facilities and training institutions; ₦1.22 billion for medical and laboratory equipment for secondary and tertiary facilities.
* **Agriculture:** ₦5.31 billion for the procurement of NPK 20:10:10 fertilizers for the 2025 farming season; ₦3.79 billion for agricultural inputs for dry season farming.
* **Infrastructure:** ₦6.13 billion for the establishment of a Central Motor Park in Damaturu; ₦248.6 million for remodeling the Yobe Line Terminus.
* **Economic Empowerment:** Funding for modern barbershop and hair salon equipment through the Ministry of Wealth Creation, Empowerment, and Employment Generation.
The administration’s commitment to improving lives and livelihoods through targeted investments in key sectors was reiterated by the Commissioner.
