Lafia Emirate Council honours Sen. Wadada with traditional title

The Lafia Emirate Council on Saturday conferred the traditional title of ‘Magajin Dangin Lafian Bare-Bare’ on Sen. Ahmed Wadada, who represents Nasarawa West Senatorial District at the National Assembly.

The Emir of Lafia, Retired Justice Sidi Bage-Muhammad, while bestowing the honour, described the conferment as a fulfilment of the wishes of their late fathers, who were childhood friends.

He said the gesture was aimed at preserving and strengthening the longstanding bond between their families.

The Emir noted that Senator Wadada was eminently deserving of the title due to his significant contributions to national development, particularly in Nasarawa State, where his impact has been felt across various sectors.

He urged the new titleholder to continue promoting unity, mutual respect, and solidarity by upholding the values and heritage of the Lafia Emirate.

“Our traditional institution remains committed to recognising merit and upholding the core values of our cultural heritage,” the Emir said.

In a congratulatory message, President Bola Tinubu described the honour as not only a personal milestone for Sen. Wadada but also a testament to his unwavering dedication to public service, community development, and the preservation of cultural values.

The President, represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Sen. George Akume, said the title was a fitting recognition of Wadada’s contributions to nation-building through his distinguished legislative service and advocacy for good governance, equity, and social progress.

“This title carries immense historical significance and moral responsibility.

“Sen. Wadada has consistently demonstrated the virtues of leadership, integrity, and service to humanity. His philanthropic activities across Nasarawa and beyond have earned him the admiration of many,” he said.

He expressed hope that the new title would further inspire Sen. Wadada to promote unity, peace, and sustainable development within the Lafia Emirate and the broader traditional institution.

President Tinubu also prayed for divine guidance and strength for the senator in his new role.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio, represented by Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, described  Wadada as a man of the people who is always ready to support the needy.

“This honour is not just for Sen. Wadada alone, but for the entire National Assembly. He is one of us, and we are all proud of him,” Akpabio said.

He thanked the Emir of Lafia for recognising Sen. Wadada, saying it would motivate him to continue his service to the nation.

Also speaking, Gov. Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State congratulated Wadada and described him as a true grassroots politician who carries everyone along in his efforts to promote unity and development across the state.

In his response,  Wadada expressed gratitude to God and the Lafia Emirate Council for the honour, promising to continue championing peace and unity within the emirate, the state, and the country at large.

The Voice Media Trust (VMT NEWS) reports that the event was attended by dignitaries including governors of Nasarawa, Bauchi, and Niger States; about 35 senators; members of the House of Representatives; traditional rulers; business leaders; and other prominent Nigerians.
