Governor Mai Mala Buni stated this at a closing ceremony of a three-day workshop for journalists, saying that the goal of this policy is the continuous promotion of excellence and best practices to achieve efficiency and effectiveness in governance.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Baba Mallam Wali, the Governor acknowledged and commended the existing cordial and robust relationship which we have built and maintained for years between the Yobe State Government and the Nigeria Union of Journalists in the State. This partnership, built on a foundation of mutual respect and shared vision for a prosperous Yobe, has been instrumental in the phenomenal progress we have recorded over the years.

Governor Buni appreciate the support of journalists in disseminating Government policies and programmes, which greatly enhanced public awareness and participation thereby making transparency and inclusivity the hallmark of our administration.

He reiterated the Government’s commitment towards a stronger and more vibrant partnership with the union and called on journalists to project the true narrative of Yobe State through developmental reporting, which will attract the partnership and investment needed to accelerate our growth.

The Governor said that at the heart of the digital revolution lies social media, a powerful, pervasive, and paradoxical force. Social media has been described as a double-edged sword, which can make or mar. As mature professionals, I urge you to leverage platforms like Facebook, Twitter (x), and Instagram, among others.
“NUJ must eschew and expose repugnant content with a clear-cut zero tolerance policy for the dangers of fake news, misinformation, and educate the audience on how to spot it. This way, the NUJ will continue to maintain its image as a bridge builder and peacemaker in society.
In his remarks, the commissioner of Home Affairs, Information and Culture, Alhaji Abdullahi Bego, said the coming of digital technologies has transformed media production, which demands continuous training and retraining of journalists.
He charged the participants to make good use of the knowledge acquired and reflect in their reportage.
Highlights of the event were the presentation of the communiqué committee resolution at the end of the three-day workshop, among others, which included the state government acknowledging the profound contribution of the members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in communicating its policies, programme and priorities to the state.
The members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Yobe state, pledged to uphold and sustain their ethical professional conduct in covering issues in Yobe state. The Union was advised to collaborate with social media influencers and content creators to develop a structure for progressive organising.
The participants acknowledge the need for media owners, both public and private, to equip media organisations with state-of-the-art technology and to constitute a governing board to enhance operations. Media organisations and professionals in the state are encouraged to organise in-house and step-down training for journalists on new technologies.
The participants appreciate the Yobe state government for its consistent support and for organising the workshop to enhance their productivity in serving the state, Nigeria and humanity at large.
