Christian council harps on justice

The Christian Council of Nigeria has stressed that justice is vital for peace, unity, and national progress.

Most Rev. David Onuoha said Nigeria places “a very low premium on justice,” creating “impunity, denials, recklessness, discontentment, and frustration.”

He described justice as society’s “bedrock and cornerstone,” warning that its absence fuels chaos and instability.

Onuoha urged the government to ensure justice “rolls down like waters,” referencing Amos 5:24 during the council’s 32nd Triennial Assembly.

He said the Council would honour notable Nigerians for outstanding service to the Church and wider society.

The CCN President congratulated the recipients and encouraged them to keep serving faithfully.

He called for unity within the Church, saying their mission must remain firm despite national difficulties.

Onuoha expressed confidence that “with God on our side, we shall conquer and achieve noble objectives.”

He welcomed keynote speaker Prof Jerry Gana and thanked Most Rev. Daniel Okoh for supporting the assembly.

Professor Gana urged churches to pray for leaders with “wisdom, capacity, and courage” to tackle national challenges.

He said Nigeria’s problems stem from failed leadership and the absence of “justice, fairness, and equity.”

Gana lamented worsening insecurity and the deaths caused by banditry and terrorism nationwide.

He urged citizens to build a just society and pressed the government to uphold fairness and equity.

According to him, government must protect citizens and ensure justice prevails across the country.

VMT NEWS reports that the assembly’s theme was ‘God’s Demand for Justice and Righteousness,’ drawn from Amos 5:24.
