Sule tasks young people on reading culture

Gov. Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has urged young people to adopt a reading culture to develop their intellects and promote knowledge.

Sule gave the charge during a book presentation titled, “Shadow Within”, authored by his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Mr Ali Abare, on Monday in Lafia.

He described reading as a means to develop one’s intellect and urged young people to promote reading.

The governor, represented by his Chief Press Secretary, Mallam Ibrahim Addra, commended the author’s professionalism, analytical mind and ability to dissect issues.

Sule, while commending Abare for contributing to the body of knowledge, noted that the book was presented at a time when the reading culture among young people was in decline.

“This book is coming at a time when reading culture is fast dying among young people, but then, it is a trade; it is a tool that will not go out of fashion.

“If you want to develop your intellect, if you want to be analytical, you have to resort to reading,” the governor said.

In his remarks, Prof. Abdulkarim Kana, All Progressives Congress (APC) Deputy National Secretary, said the author, through his work, gave society a mirror to look beyond the surface to explore the complexities and shadows within the human experience that shaped society.

“This is more than a book; it is a contribution to our collective understanding and a testament to the powerful role of literature in reflecting and challenging the world we inhabit.

“As an academic and a legal professional, I appreciate the depth of research and passion that must have gone into bringing this narrative to life. I congratulate the author, Ali Abare,” he said.

Also, the book reviewer, Prof. John Adeiyongo, Department of English and Linguistics, University of Jos, said  the book served as a powerful critique of inherited corruption and social malice, saying, the author lent his voice as a precaution to such acts.

“The author deserves sincere commendation for this ambitious and effective attempt to weave intense socio-political commentary with intimate personal struggles.

“I strongly encourage every potential reader to secure a copy of ‘’Shadows Within’’, grasping the intricate web of challenges expressed in the novel, such as elite impunity and political opportunism.

“This is to ensure that one is not an enabler of the social decay that the novel has so powerfully exposed,” he said.

Responding, the author, Abare, said he was motivated to write the book because of his desire to communicate to the reader how he perceived the world.

The Voice Media Trust (VMT NEWS) reports that the book presentation  had in attendance political associates of the author, academia, and captains of industry.
