First Lady of Nigeria launches renewed hope economic empowerment initiative to commemorate 2025 disability day.

As part of efforts to commemorate this year’s world disability day, the Renewed Hope Initiative organised an economic empowerment programme for persons with special needs.

Theme fostering a disability-inclusive society for advancing social progress took place at Kaka Naru Auditorium, Yobe Children’s Academy, Damaturu, today, Wednesday, 3/ December 2025.

Speaking at the event state acting coordinator of Renewed Hope Initiative who is also the commissioner Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management Dr Mai Ahmed Amshi said the provision of financial support of 200,00 cash to 250 persons with disabilities across the states as well as disabled veterans from the military and police to enhance their small businesses.

Represented by the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Alhaji Baba Shuaibu Ahmed, the commissioner said the initiative under the first lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, was organised to celebrate inclusion, resilience, and the unwavering commitment of the Federal Government to uplift the living conditions of persons with disabilities across Nigeria.

She said the Renewed Hope Initiative continues to open new doors of opportunity for vulnerable citizens, ensuring that no one is left behind under the initiative.

Dr Mairo Ahmed Amshi said the financial support to 250 persons with disabilities across Yobe State is not just economic—it is a symbol of recognition, dignity, and renewed hope.

The acting coordinator reaffirms the ministry’s commitment to promoting inclusion, strengthening social protection systems, and enhancing the quality of life for persons with disabilities.

Dr Mairo appreciate Governor Bunis’ continuous support for the Renewed Hope Initiative in the State.

She further commended the First Lady of Yobe State Hajiya Hafsat Buni Kollere, for her tireless efforts in uplifting women, promoting welfare programs, and supporting persons with vulnerabilities.

The acting coordinator called on the beneficiaries to make the best use of the empowerment support.

In their separate remarks, the commissioner of the Ministry of Women Affairs, Hajiya Ya’ Jalo Badama, the executive chairman of the Persons with disabilities commission, Alhaji Usman Bra Gabai, and the special adviser on women affairs, Hajiya Saratu Sabo, applauded the efforts of the Renewed Hope Initiative for the gesture.

According to them, the cash support would go alone way in ameliorating the current hardship being faced by the persons with special needs.
