Yobe State Clinches Coveted 2025 National Champion Title for Primary Healthcare Delivery in Nigeria, Securing USD 1.2 Million Prize

In a remarkable display of sustained commitment and proven excellence, Yobe State has once again been recognized as the leading state in primary healthcare delivery across Nigeria.

This prestigious accolade, the 2025 National Champion for Primary Health Care Leadership Challenge, solidifies the state’s position as a benchmark for effective and accessible healthcare services.

The achievement comes just one week after Yobe State was honored with the Leadership Excellence Award in Equitable Healthcare and Social Welfare by the Dove Healthcare Foundation, further underscoring the administration’s unwavering dedication to its citizens’ well-being.

The 2025 National Champion award is a significant recognition, celebrating outstanding achievements, groundbreaking innovations, and exemplary contributions within Nigeria’s vital healthcare sector.

It specifically acknowledges the personal commitment and proactive leadership of His Excellency, Hon. (Dr.) Mai Mala Buni CON, COMN, the Governor of Yobe State, in ensuring the consistent functionality and accessibility of primary healthcare centers throughout the state.

This esteemed challenge, introduced three years ago, has seen Yobe State demonstrate a consistent upward trajectory. In the previous year, the state distinguished itself as the Northeast Zonal Champion.

This year, Yobe State has not only reiterated its dominance in the Northeast by again securing the Zonal Champion title but has also ascended to the pinnacle of national recognition, earning the coveted 2025 National Champion status.

This historic achievement is accompanied by a substantial prize of USD 1.2 million, a testament to the impactful and far-reaching success of the state’s primary healthcare initiatives.

The Nigerian Primary Health Care Leadership Challenge is a rigorous and comprehensive initiative meticulously managed by a formidable consortium of key stakeholders dedicated to advancing healthcare in Nigeria.

These include the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), and the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA). Their collective oversight ensures the integrity and impact of the challenge.

This latest award, alongside previous recognitions, serves as a powerful testament to the priority attention and unwavering commitment the Buni administration places on the functionality and continuous improvement of primary healthcare delivery across Yobe State.

The state’s consistent success highlights a strategic and impactful approach to healthcare, ensuring that essential medical services are readily available to all citizens.
