Nutrition: Nursing mothers laud Plateau govt., UNICEF over intervention
Nursing mothers across communities in Plateau have commended the State Government and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) over its intervention on Small Quantity Lipid-Based Supplements(SQLNS) for children in the state.
Some of the lactating mothers made the commendation on Wednesday during a tour of some Primary Healthcare Facilities across Jos North and South Local Government Areas of Plateau.
The Voice Media Trust (VMT NEWS) reports that the SQLNS initiative was introduced in Sept. 2025 by the state government in collaboration with UNICEF and other donour agencies.
The initiative, which is facilitated by the Child Nutrition Fund (CNF) is to curb child malnutrition in the state.
Hauwa Mohammed one of the nursing mothers, said that the initiave had mitigated some of challenges confronting their babies in the past.
Mohammed appealed for the sustainability of the programme, insisting that the initiative had so far been effective.
Another lactating mother, Rukkayat Shuaibu, noted that the initiative had addressed the usual challenge that comes with the teething of her baby.
On her part, Hasiya Agwaru, said that weight and general health of her baby had improved since she started administering the supplements.

Agwaru called on the state government and donours to ensure regular supply of the medication for the growth of the their babies.
Mr Abdullahi Rabiu, the Ward Head of Nasarawa-Gwong in Jos North, commended the state government and its partners form the initiative.
Speaking, Mr Silas Nansel, the Assistant Nutrition Officer in the state, said that the exercise was necessary to determine the efficacy of the supplements in the state.
“The state government is passionate about eradicating malnutrition in Plateau.
“Government is fully committed and we are here to evaluate the successes or challenges of the SQLNS initiative,”he said
