Adivime assumes office as Kogi Poly Rector, promises academic advancement

Prof. Salihu Adivime, the new Rector of Kogi Polytechnic, Lokoja, on Wednesday assumed office with a pledge to provide purposeful and quality leadership aimed at improving the institution’s academic standards.

Adivime made the pledge in his maiden address at a formal handover ceremony held at the Polytechnic’s Council Chamber in Lokoja.

He said that his primary objective as rector was to move the institution forward and consolidate on the achievements of his predecessor.

“There will be no disappointment with this appointment by the state governor, Alhaji Ahmed Ododo,” he said.

The rector called for commitment, cooperation and support from staff, stressing that collective effort was essential to achieving the institution’s goals and sustaining progress.

He also expressed appreciation to Gov. Ododo for the confidence reposed in him, and wished the outgoing rector, Prof. Salisu Usman, God’s guidance in his new role as Vice-Chancellor of Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU).

Earlier, Usman thanked God and the governor for the opportunity to serve as rector from April 4, 2020, to Feb. 11, 2026.

He said one of the institution’s most notable achievements during his tenure was the successful reaccreditation of all academic programmes, resulting in a 100 per cent full accreditation status by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).

According to him, the Polytechnic also introduced new programmes, established additional schools, and revived or initiated academic partnerships, including collaborations with the Federal University Lokoja and the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA).

“I am proud to state that the Polytechnic I am handing over today is safer, stronger, more stable and forward-looking,” Usman said.

He added that security and order had been restored on campus, ending cultism and disorder, while academic integrity was strengthened through e-governance systems, secure result and certificate processing, prompt release of results and improved quality assurance mechanisms.

Usman noted that significant infrastructural development was also achieved through Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) interventions, internally generated revenue and strategic partnerships.

He urged staff and students to give the new rector maximum cooperation and support to enable him succeed.
