48th Anniversary: Corp Members Stage Unity March In Sokoto

As part of event to mark 48th Anniversary of National Youth Service Corp , the 2021 Batch A stream 2 Corp.members currently undergoing orientation exercise at permanent orientation camp , Wamakko local government of Sokoto State on Saturday staged a unity march .

The event came at the time when some stakeholders were advocating for the scrapping of the NYSC scheme.

It also to reduce tensions and agitation clamouring for secession.

The event started with march past by different platoons in the camp.

Some of the participants were seen carrying placards with the inscription,. Unity is our strength, in brotherhood we stand , Shun cyber crime, Shun act that divide us .

The Corp members also wore attire of different ethnic groups as a symbol of Nigeria’s unity .

The event was climax with cultural dance by different ethnic groups.

At the end of the competition platoon 5,8 and 6 came first, second and third respectively , platoon 6 also received an award of being the over all best in the March past.

Speaking the NYSC.State Coordinator Mr Philip Enaberue said NYSC is a symbol of unity holding the country together as an indivisible entity .

” What we are witnessing today is to tell the world that as Nigerians we are one irrespective of ethnic and religious background he stated.

On his part the member of NYSC governing board in the state Alhaji Abdullahi Maishanu said NYSC scheme is the most enduring scheme that have promoted the nation’s unity and economic development .

Maishanu reiterated the State Government commitment for the welfare and safety of corps members posted to the state.

Some of the Corp members who spoke to our Correspondent noted that NYSC has erroded the thought they had towards other tribes in the country.

They further disclosed that before they came to Sokoto they were in the view that the State is not safe but discovered that it is the most peaceful state in the country.
