2027: Southern Adamawa APC Elders advocate transparent primaries

Some elders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Southern Adamawa have rejected consensus arrangements, calling for direct and transparent primaries in the selection of candidates for the 2027 elections.

Leader of the elders, Mr Muyinani Aini, made the call  during the endorsement of Mr Peter Fwa, for the Adamawa South Senatorial seat on Friday in Numan Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.

The southern senatorial district  comprises of Numan, Lamurde, Demsa, Guyuk, Shelleng, Ganye, Jada, Mayo-Belwa and Toungo LGAs.

According to Aini, the group have reviewed recent political developments within the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He noted that the elders were in support of  a transparent, credible and peaceful primary election process within the APC.

“The group opposes consensus arrangements and preferred direct primaries in selecting the party’s candidate.

“In the event that ongoing alignments and realignments shape the direction of our party, Fwa remains our preferred and authentic candidate for the Adamawa south senatorial  seat,” he said.

Aini recalled that Fwa contested the same position in 2019 and performed creditably during the exercise.

“He was widely accepted by delegates as the candidate of choice,  but in deference to party unity and counsel of elders, he stepped down for the eventual winner.

“His actions demonstrated respect for party supremacy, discipline and collective interest above personal ambition.

“He had remained loyal and committed to the APC without demanding appointments or personal benefits,” Aini said.

He described Fwa as a grassroots politician who had consistently supported party activities at the ward, local government and state levels.

Aini said Fwa had supported youth empowerment, skills acquisition, scholarship programmes, peace-building initiatives and job creation efforts across the district.

“While we acknowledge the pedigree of other aspirants, many of whom have held public office, we find it difficult to reconcile their years in service with the limited tangible impact on our zone.

“We therefore call on Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri, APC leaders and other stakeholders in the state to support Fwa’s aspiration and consider him as the party’s flag bearer for the Adamawa south senatorial district in 2027,” he said.

Aini then stated  that the elders had  unanimously endorsed Fwa and expressed confidence that the endorsement would strengthen the APC’s chances in the 2027 general elections.
