Colombia beat DR Congo 1-0 in tight world cup contest

Colombia defeated DR Congo with a narrow 1-0 in a closely fought Group K match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with Daniel Munoz scoring the decisive goal in the 76th minute.

Voice Media Trust (VMT NEWS) reports that the match was played on Wednesday at the Estadio Akron, Zapopan, Guadalajara, Mexico.

The match was evenly balanced for much of the game, as both teams showed determination and discipline in defence.

Colombia enjoyed more possession and looked more dangerous going forward, while DR Congo relied on quick counter-attacks and a compact defensive shape to frustrate their opponents.

The first half ended without a goal as both sides struggled to create clear scoring chances.

Colombia pushed forward through Juan Quintero and their attacking players, but DR Congo’s defenders remained solid and cleared every danger that came their way.

As the second half progressed, Colombia increased the pressure and eventually found the breakthrough.

In the 76th minute, Quintero delivered a precise pass to Daniel Munoz, who made no mistake in putting the ball into the net to give Colombia the lead.

The goal lifted the South Americans and forced DR Congo to attack in search of an equaliser.

The African side showed great fighting spirit and committed more players forward, but Colombia’s defence remained organised and protected their advantage until the final whistle.

The match also produced a number of tough challenges, with two players from Colombia Jhon Lucumí and Jefferson Lerma and one from Dr Congo Charles Pickel, teams receiving yellow cards from the referee for fouls and unsporting behaviour.

The victory strengthened Colombia’s chances of advancing to the knockout stage, while DR Congo will need a positive result in their final group match to improve their qualification hopes.

In their next Group K matches, Colombia will face Portugal, while DR Congo will take on Uzbekistan on June 27.

The result leaves Colombia in a strong position in the group standings, while DR Congo must quickly regroup and focus on their next crucial encounter.
