Damaturu Wears Modernity With Gov. Buni’s Flyover Urban Renewal Project
As the construction of the Damaturu Flyover nears completion, there is no doubt that the investment by the Yobe State government into the three lanes of, underpass, overhead and flyover road projects have brought to an end the incessant road traffic accidents at the city center, and flooding at the heart of Damaturu the state capital.

Until the construction of the flyover, it was a mere interjection of federal highway from Kano to Maiduguri and Bayamari to Biu, constructed in 1973, meeting at the Damaturu city center, popularly referred to as “Cross”.
The interjection “cross” was intended to serve the traffic flow of 1973. Sadly, this has not been expanded either by the Federal government, the then North East state government, the old Borno state nor the newly created Yobe State government in 1991.
Thirty (34) years after the creation of the state, under the regime of His Excellency Governor Mai Mala Buni CON, COMN, the Yobe state government conceived the idea of constructing the flyover bridge to provide solutions to the current and future challenges of traffic congestion, accidents and flooding in Damaturu.
In 2025, the Buni administration, awarded the contract for the construction of the flyover project to TRIACTA construction company with a commitment to full funding, and completion period of one year.

As the flyover project progressed steadily, the Buni administration expanded the project to cover expansion of the 6.6km main road from 5:30 Petrol Station to the 27th August Stadium on both sides.
Already, the Damaturu Modern Market has been completed, commissioned and now in use propelling economic expansion and growth, while the ultra Modern plaza complex and the Modern Motor station with a provision for hostel accommodation for passengers, mechanic garage, shopping complex, clinic, police station, bank, fire service and station among others are now at finishing touches of completion to give Damaturu a befitting status of state capital that it deserves.
As the people and government of Yobe State government prepare for the grand commissioning of the Flyover, it is indeed a moment of history in the life of the state.
