The Acting Provost of Aminu Kano College of Islamic and Legal Studies (AKCILS), Dr. Ali Tamasi Mu’azu, has called for renewed efforts to preserve the authentic teachings and intellectual legacy of the renowned Islamic reformer, Sheikh Usman Dan Fodio, describing his contributions to Islamic scholarship and social reform as enduring and invaluable.
Dr. Tamasi made the call while receiving a delegation from the Sheikh Abdullahi Uwais Madabo Committee, who paid him a courtesy visit to congratulate him on his appointment as the Acting Provost of the College.
Welcoming the delegation, the Acting Provost expressed appreciation for the visit and commended the committee for its sustained commitment to organising the annual Maulud as well as promoting the ideals, scholarship, and enduring contributions of Sheikh Usman Dan Fodio.
He observed that the revered scholar’s teachings remain a source of guidance for Muslims and humanity at large, particularly in the areas of education, moral discipline, peaceful coexistence, and social reform.
Dr. Tamasi stressed the need for scholars, educational institutions, and community leaders to work collectively towards preserving the authentic history, writings, and intellectual heritage of Sheikh Usman Dan Fodio for the benefit of future generations. According to him, misconceptions surrounding the celebrated Islamic reformer can only be corrected through rigorous scholarship, research, and proper documentation of his works.
He also appealed to political actors to refrain from politicising the legacy of Sheikh Usman Dan Fodio or encouraging narratives that undermine his immense contributions to the growth and reform of Islam in Nigeria.

“I will support his administration as I would support my own and pray that Allah grants him wisdom, guidance, and success in the discharge of his responsibilities,” Sheikh Uwais said.
