Ojokoro LCDA partners LNSC to curb indiscriminate waste disposal
Ojokoro Local Council Development Area (LCDA), on Wednesday partners with the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC) to curb indiscriminate waste disposal in the community.
Speaking at the sealing of the partnership at the council’s secretariat, Ojokoro council chairman, Mrs Oluyemisi Rosiji, said that the corps would report residents who violated sanitation regulations.
Rosiji also inaugurated a Special Environmental Enforcement Corps to monitor and apprehend indiscriminate waste disposal offenders within the LCDA.
She expressed concern over persistent dumping of refuse on road medians, in drainages and along streets.
According to her, such act defaces the environment and further breeds pests and diseases.
She said that the era of indiscriminate waste disposal must end, as the council would no longer tolerate practices that undermined residents’ health.
The chairman said that the council had engaged LNSC to arrest offenders for prosecution.
“It is time people are prosecuted for indiscriminate disposal of refuse,” she said.
Rosiji urged residents to adopt responsible waste management, including sorting waste properly before disposal.

She encouraged residents with space to cultivate gardens and compost biodegradable waste into organic manure.
Rosiji said that not all items were immediate waste, as some could be reused, recycled or stored before disposal.
The Supervisor for Environment in the council, Mr Olateju Adeoye, commended the chairman’s resolve to sanitise the environment.
Adeoye charged corps members to act professionally and educate offenders on reasons for apprehension.
Sanitarian Falade Idayat, Head of Environmental Health, urged officers to obtain pictorial and video evidences for prosecution.
LNSC Ojokoro Commandant, Odulami Randle, assured of commitment to effective enforcement with the chairman’s backing.
“We will carry out this assignment diligently with professionalism,” Randle said.
