Maj. Gen. Koughna Flags Off 8 Div. 2026 Inter-Brigade Combat Proficiency Competition In Sokoto

The General Officer Commanding, (GOC) 8 Division, and Commander Sector 2 Joint Operation FASAN YAMMA, Major General, Paul Koughna, Monday flagged off the Division’s 2026 Inter-Brigade Combat Proficiency Competition with the aim of ensuring that troops are physical fit and combat ready at all time.

The GOC, Koughna who reeassured that the competition would not only test the resilient spirit, discipline and operational preparedness of participating troops, but also contribute to their leadership and dedication spirit, added that, training and retraining is in accordance with the Command philosophy of the Chief of Army Staff as it’s crucial for military professionalism.

Represented by his Chief of Staff, Brigadier General Ibrahim Gambari, said competitions.of such nature are critical component of the Army calemder hence such training especially in current security environment of the country requires compact proficiency as the ultimate metric of the Army’s readiness as a fighting force.

“The leadership of Nigeria Army places immense priority on developing personnel who are not only competent and disciplined but highly combat ready hence your ability to execute tactical maneuver, and mental discipline would help to provide decisive leadership under pressure which aligns with the very foundation upon which our operational successes are built.

“Over the course of this competition, you will be rigorously tested on your professional military knowledge, leadership, marksmanship. and tactical proficiencies. The primary objectives of this gathering are clear: to assess and significantly improve the combat readiness of our troops, to promote esprit de corps, and foster a healthy yet fierce inter-brigade rivalry, and to evaluate the current training standard across various formation within the 8 Division”, GOC Joughna sressed.

Addressing the competitors who represents various brigade, the GOC urged them to use the competition to prove themselves, hence the tasks ahead are meticulously designed to push them to their physical and mental limits.

“They may be daunting, but they are deliberately structured to sharpen your professional edge for real-world operation. I expect nothing less than absolute discipline, unwavering determination, and strict adherence to the rules of the competition. Fight out for the glory of your respective Brigade in the true spirit of sportsmanship”.

Continuing, Maj. Gen. Koughna said, “Training is the bedrock of the military profession and the cradle upon which regimentation and discipline are formed.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Commander, 8 Division, Garrison, Brig.-Gen. Isidore Amah, noted that the competition was a strategic initiative aimed at strengthening the operational capacity of troops.

Brig. General Amah who commended the leadership styles of the GOC added that the event was not merely a contest of skills but a deliberate effort to enhance training, discipline, resilience and tactical proficiency.

Amah further clarified that activities at the competition would include map reading, swimming, drills, endurance runs, weapon handling and other tactical exercises.
