Adamawa govt. lauds FG’s interventions on Security, livestock development

The Adamawa on Tuesday lauded the Federal Government’s interventions on Security, livestock development and road infrastructure in the state.

Mr Leader Leneke, the state Commissioner for Information made the commendation in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Yola.

Leneke, who spoke on the backdrop of the President Bola Tinubu administration’s impact in the last three years,  said Adamawa had witnessed considerable improvement on security during the period under review.

He, however, said that isolated attacks and skirmishes still occurred in some communities, particularly in areas around the Sambisa Forest corridor and parts of Madagali.

“Although we cannot say that the insurgency has been completely eliminated, the situation has improved significantly.

“The insurgents no longer occupy or capture territories as they used to. They no longer displace entire communities or come in large numbers as they did in the past,” the commissioner said.

Leneke said that the challenges of kidnapping, abduction, farmer-herder clashes and attacks by unknown gunmen had significantly reduced in the state.

The commissioner attributed the improvement  to strengthened security architecture and intelligence gathering by the federal security agencies.

He said  the impact of federal government’s interventions in agriculture and livestock were particularly significant given the importance of the sectors to the state’s economy.

Leneke further identified Livestock Productivity, Resilience Support Project (L-PRES) and the development of veterinary infrastructure, among major interventions in the state.

According to him, Adamawa is among the states benefiting from federal government’s livestock transformation initiatives designed to improve Animal  production.

“Adamawa State is one of the states identified to benefit from the livestock transformation programme.

“These interventions include support for livestock farmers with machinery and other facilities for feed production and improvement of livestock production generally,” he said.

The commissioner also identified the establishment of a specialist veterinary facility in Adamawa by federal government major intervention in the livestock sector.

He said the facility would provide specialised veterinary services for different categories of animals, including large animals.

Leneke said the interventions were important to Adamawa because of the state’s significant agricultural and livestock activities.

He recalled the challenges previously experienced in the distribution of agricultural inputs, particularly fertiliser, during the height of insurgency in the North-east.

“Because of the insurgency in the North-east, and Adamawa being one of the states worst affected, there was a time when fertiliser supplies to the state were severely disrupted.

“But that situation has changed. Fertiliser is now coming into the state, and we are looking forward to supporting dry-season farmers after the rainy season,” he said.

According to him, the restoration of critical infrastructure, including bridges destroyed during the insurgency, has also helped communities regain access with other parts of the state.

The commissioner, therefore, urged residents to remain vigilant, adding that isolated security incidents continued to occur from time to time.

On road infrastructure, leneke said said both the state and the federal governments had made progress in road construction.

He cited the Numan-Gombe Road as an example of a major federal government project that had been continued and completed under the Tinubu’s administration.

According to him, the project is awarded during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, the Tinubu administration continued its implementation and completed it.

He also cited the Jada-Ganye Road, which was similarly awarded under the previous administration, and was subsequently completed.

“Under the Tinubu administration, the Numan-Gombe Road was completed. Although it was awarded under the Buhari administration, it was not completed at that time.

” The Tinubu administration continued and brought it to completion,” the commissioner said.

Leneke, however, acknowledged that some important federal government routes remained challenging in the state.

He stated that the Yola-Numan-Jalingo  and the Maiha- Madagali axis were among roads that need urgent attention.

“We are not yet where we want to be, but we are certainly not where we used to be. There has been improvement,” Leneke said.

The commissioner assured that the state government was ever ready to support and collaborate with the federal government in facilitating developmental interventions in the state.
