Ladoja charges influential Nigerians, organisations on skills empowerment

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has urged influential individuals and organisations to equip more people with practical and income-generating skills.

Ladoja made the call when Dr Abiola Arogundade, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Technical, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Education, paid him a courtesy visit on Thursday in Ibadan.

Arogundade was at the palace to brief the Olubadan on the ongoing Federal Government’s vocational training and empowerment initiative in Ibadan.

The Voice Media Trust (VMT NEWS) reports that the empowerment initiative focuses on fashion design, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and makeup artistry.

Ladoja said the initiative would go a long way to reduce poverty and unemployment, especially when individuals and organisations emulate the government’s efforts.

According to him, such initiatives create opportunities for youths and other members of society to become self-reliant and contribute meaningfully to the nation’s economic development.

“It’s a very good initiative, and we are very proud of Arogundade.

“I would also like to encourage many people in her position to emulate her, because this will go a long way in empowering people and reducing poverty in our society,” he said.

He noted that vocational skills could become sustainable sources of income and livelihood, especially as Nigerians seek alternative means of income.

Earlier, Arogundade said the visit was to inform the Olubadan that the grand finale of the 10-day vocational training of 200 youths in Oyo State would be on Friday.

Arogundade, who hailed from Ibadan, said it would not be proper not to inform the Olubadan of an empowerment programme of such magnitude.

“The Olubadan is very happy, as he likes to see people grow, especially for the fact that we are training people and we are empowering them,” she said.

She said the 200 participants, trained in graphics/AI, makeup artistry and fashion design, would all be provided with work tools to stand on their own.

Arogundade further said 700 additional people would be given tablets at the end of the programme.

VMT NEWS reports that the vocational skills training started on Sept. 28 in Ibadan.
