BWI-RHA inaugurates Niger chapter, seeks grassroots women inclusion

The Business Women of Influence for Renewed Hope Agenda (BWI-RHA) has inaugurated its Niger Chapter, with a call for increased grassroots inclusion of women across the 25 local government areas of the state.

Mrs Mary Noel Berje, the Niger State Coordinator of the organisation, made the call at the inauguration of the organisation in Minna on Wednesday.

She said the initiative was established to unite women, promote entrepreneurship, develop leadership skills and create economic opportunities.

Berje said the organisation would promote political participation in support of the Renewed Hope Agenda while sustaining its women empowerment programmes beyond electoral seasons.

“Our vision is bigger than elections. We are building a sustainable platform that will continue to empower women, promote entrepreneurship, encourage business development and improve the economic well-being of women in Niger state and beyond,” she said.

She urged members to develop strategies for reaching women in rural communities, market associations, small businesses, professional groups and other sectors across the state.

Berje said the organisation’s success would be measured by the positive difference it made in women’s lives rather than its membership strength.

She called for partnerships with community leaders, business owners, organisations and other stakeholders to expand opportunities for women participation in economic, social and public life.

The coordinator urged members to embrace unity, discipline, accountability and teamwork to ensure the organisation’s growth and sustainability.

Earlier in a welcome address, Mrs Victoria Alkali, Secretary of BWI-RHA in Niger, said it would implement empowerment programmes across the 25 local government areas to provide succour to vulnerable people at the grassroots.

She described BWI-RHA as a platform for businesswomen to collaborate, promote collective development and contribute to improving the welfare of vulnerable people in their communities.

Alhaji Aminu Bobi, state Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC), commended the association for bringing businesswomen together to support grassroots development.

Bobi, represented by Alhaji Ahmed Shuiabu, Vice Chairman of APC Zone A, urged members to remain committed and work towards promoting women empowerment.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Water Resources in Niger, Alhaji Faruk Audi, said women constituted a significant proportion of the electorate and urged them to mobilise others to participate in the 2027 general elections.

The Voice Media Trust (VMT NEWS) reports that those inaugurated as executives were Mrs Mary Noel-Berje as the state Coordinator and Salamatu Suleiman as the Deputy State Coordinator.

Other members of the executives are Aisha Lakpene, as the state Secretary and Jummai Gimba as Director of Finance and Treasurer among others.
