Abduction: Zamfara Women Affairs Commissioner advises parents of Jangebe released schoolgirls

The Zamfara State Commissioner for Women and Children Affairs, Hajiya Zainab Lawal-Gummi has called on the parents of the released schoolgirls of the Government Girls Secondary School Jangebe not to be discourage on future of their children’s education.

Lawal-Gummi made the call in Gusau on Wednesday while speaking on the recent release of schoolgirls after spending four days in captivity.

VMTNews reports that a total of 279 schoolgirls who were abducted last Friday by unknown gunmen were released in the early hours of Yesterday, Tuesday.

The Commissioner said parents of the victims should not be discouraged in sending their children to continue to acquire both western and islamic education.
She called on them to consider the incident as an act of God.

“The importance of education especially on female children in this dynamic society can not be over emphasized.
“Hence the need for parents of the victims to consider what happened as a stepping stone in attaining to the aimed destination.

“On behalf of the State Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, I congratulate the state government, parents of the freed students and entire people of Zamfara and Nigeria in general over the released of the students”, the Commissioner said.

She commended Gov. Bello Matawalle and security agencies for their efforts in securing the released of the schoolgirls.

She thanked Matawalle for initiating the peace diologue process in the state which she said led to successful released of the students.

According to her, the successful released of the abductees portrays the governor’s willingness and ability to salvage the state against insecurity which continued to be major challenge to socio-economic well being of the citizens of the state.

She reiterated the state government’s commitments through her ministry to improve the welfare of women and children in the state.

“We commend Matawalle for initiating various programmes on women empowerment in the state”, she added.

She also appealed to Islamic scholars in the state to continue to offer special prayers for the sustenance of peace and stability in the state.
