Adamawa Govt. promises to sustain GPE project to minimise out-of-school children
The Adamawa Government has promised to sustain Global Partnership for Education (GPE)-funded projects to minimise out-of-school children in the state.
GPE, which provides an accelerated learning program for 12,000 of the children, was being implemented by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
The state Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr Garba Pella, made the promise at the closing ceremony of the one-year project on Friday in Yola.
Pella, represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Aishatu Umar, said the state government had made provisions for sustainability of the project in the 2026 budget proposal.
According to him, the issue of funds for sustaining the project will not be a problem.
Pella, earlier, acknowledged the contribution of UNICEF and other partners to the development of education in the state.
Also, UNICEF Education Specialist, Mr AbdulRahaman Ado, said the duration of the project was between April 1, 2024, and Sept. 30, 2025, with no room for extension.
Ado said the objective of the project was to provide access to safe and inclusive educational continuity in Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe.
He also said that the project was implemented in Gombi, Lamurde, and Madagali Local Government Areas of the state.

One of the facilitators, Mustapha Abdulsalam, described the programme as “a plus to education development in Adamawa, as it reduces the number of out-of-school children”.
According to Abdulsalam, the construction of shades as learning centers encouraged adolescent boys and girls to attend lessons.
One of the beneficiaries of the project, a 15-year-old boy, Sani Yahaya, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to be educated.
Another beneficiary, Bilkisu Umar, a 12-year-old girl, said she had never been to school before.
Umar, however, said that the project had assisted her in learning how to read and write and promised to further her education.
