Air Traffic communicators to integrate Artificial Intelligence into network
The National Air Traffic Communicators Association of Nigeria (NACAN) is to integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) into Aeronautical Fixed Telecommunication Network (AFTN)/Aeronautical Message Handling System (AMHS) for sustainability.
The President of NACAN, Alhaji Rabiu Sani, gave the assurance in statement made available to newsmen on Tuesday in Lagos.
Sani said that plans had been concluded for the association’s annual general meeting on Dec. 4 in Abuja, where aviation stakeholders would deliberate on critical matters regarding AFTN/AMHS and AI collaboration.
According to Sani, the event will have the theme: ‘Building a Smarter, More Sustainable AFTN/AMHS through AI Collaboration’.
He disclosed that Mr Umar Farouk, Managing Director of the Nigeria Airspace Management Agency, would be the chief host while captains of aviation parastatals would be special guests.

Sani stated that a seasoned aviator, Mr Tom Oteyo from Nairobi, would present a paper at the event, adding that there would be other discussants from the international scene.
He said that Akwa Ibom, Kano, Yobe and Rivers governors would be at the event.
According to Sani, AFTN is a low-speed network providing majority of ground-ground data communication within the realm of International Civil Aviation Organisation.
He said that AMHS was a standard for Air Traffic Services Message Handling System based on ground-ground communications for exchange of messages such as flight plans and meteorological data.
