The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, officially commenced the construction of the Kugbo Bus Terminal in Abuja on Tuesday, marking a significant step forward in the Federal Capital Territory’s infrastructure development.

During the inauguration ceremony, Akpabio highlighted the importance of the project, stating, “This event is a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to enhance the infrastructure and public transportation system of the capital city of our beloved country.” He emphasized that the development of these bus terminals goes beyond mere construction, reflecting the dedication of President Bola Tinubu’s administration to the modernization and progress of Nigeria.

Akpabio elaborated on the terminal’s expected impact, saying, “This terminal will serve as a vital hub that will facilitate the efficient movement of people, reduce traffic congestion, and improve the overall quality of life for residents and visitors alike in the city.” He added that the Kugbo Bus Terminal is envisioned as a state-of-the-art facility, equipped with modern amenities to ensure comfort, safety, and convenience for all users.

The Senate President also noted, “These terminals will provide a structured and organized environment for our public transportation system, promoting greater efficiency and reliability.” He asserted that the project aligns with a broader vision for Abuja as a model city not only within Nigeria but across the African continent. “A well-organized public transportation system is the backbone of any thriving metropolis, and with these terminals, we are laying a solid foundation for sustainable urban development,” he said.

Akpabio praised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for his transformative efforts over the past year, which have significantly advanced the capital’s infrastructure. He recalled the recent commissioning of several projects in the Federal Capital Territory, attributing these successes to the minister’s commitment.

“The minister’s dedication to these developments has earned commendations from both supporters and critics, highlighting the positive impact of his initiatives on the city’s growth and modernization,” Akpabio remarked. He extended his gratitude to all those working alongside the minister to restore Abuja to its original vision, acknowledging their dedication and hard work as instrumental in driving the nation forward.

Furthermore, Akpabio expressed appreciation for President Bola Tinubu’s support and cooperation, noting that the President has allowed the Minister a free hand in restoring Abuja to its intended plan.

The inauguration of the Kugbo Bus Terminal marks a pivotal moment in Abuja’s journey towards becoming a modern, efficient city with a robust public transportation system, reflecting the broader ambitions of Nigeria’s leadership.
