The All Progressives Congress (APC) has raised concerns over an alleged plot by the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to compromise the forthcoming council election in Bauchi State.
It could be recalled that the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BAIEC) fixed Aug. 17 for the Local government council elections.
The APC Publicity Committee in the State Malam Saadu Umar raiser the concern on Saturday in Bauchi, saying that the PDP refused to adhere to democratic principles.
He noted that Gov. Bala Mohammed in October 2020, conducted the worst Local Government election ever in the history of Bauchi State, alleging that the elections was marred by irregularities and manipulations.
“I personally experienced Governor Bala’s rape of election. I was the chairmanship candidate of the APC in Toro Local government Area.
“Bala wrote the elections results in his house, days to the phantom election and announced the results before ballot boxes reached the polling booths.
He stressed that APC in the state urged the Governor to demonstrate true leadership as a true democrat by refraining from making any statement suggestive of political interference in the entire process.
“We urge him to practice that which he preached to the President and INEC in Enugu, the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission must borrow his words,” Umar said.
Responding to the allegation, Mr Yayanuwa Zainabari, the State PDP Publicity Secretary, dismissed the allegation by the APC, saying that the forthcoming local government elections would be free and fair.
He described the APC in the state as a Non-existent opposition party in Bauchi state, pointing out that the members are not coherent as all they know how to do is to talk on non existent issues.
