President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been advised not to toe the ignoble path of his predecessors who only mourned victims of killings in press statements, thereby reducing themselves to mourners-in-chief instead of taking responsibility as commanders-in-chief who tackled the issues of insecurity and economic problems
The former APC Gubernatorial Aspirant in Bauchi State Muhammad Sani Al’amin advised in an open letter sent to President Bola Tinubu as he marked one year in office. The letter which was signed by Al’amin which was distributed to reporters today in Bauchi, urged the President to rise to the occasion and use every available coercive apparatus to bring the miscreants killing people at will and economic saboteurs to justice.
He said that those responsible for the genocide and orgy of violence, kidnapping, tribal wars are all out to end our ways of life and must be stopped.
“The perpetrators of this violence are not just crazy but are very dangerous, and the truth is that they won’t just stop until we stop them. We must stop them. Who has the responsibility to stop them? It is the commander-in-chief, but previously, they reduced themselves to mourners-in-chief instead.
“It means using whatever coercive security apparatus we have as a nation to locate where these perpetrators are and their sponsors wherever they are littered in the ungoverned spaces that we have in Nigeria whether, in Plateau, Nasarawa, Benue, Katsina, Zamfara, Sokoto or in southern Kaduna or the south, we must locate them and after locating them, the commander-in-chief must take justice to them or bring them to justice, the failure to either take justice to them or bring them to justice has always been the bane of the fight against terrorism and violence in Nigeria because it emboldens them.
If they will kill many in one state and go scot-free, why won’t they kill in any other state in the North and the South? “Failure to act at that level is more or less an incentive for them to continue to deploy this unbridled violence on the people.
So, my call, therefore, is to the President to rise up and for him to know that condolences at this moment, anywhere in the country, are better given in the form of decisive action against the perpetrators of this violence and not by mere words.
“It beats my imagination as to why these things are happening in a country like Nigeria; violence, sponsors of violence, and those who participate in it. We may not know the reasons why they do this, but we can not deny that they want to upend our ways of life. But we all know that although you are the Chief Security Officer of the state, you do not command or control any troops.
“Obviously, we have heard your passion about ending this circle of violence even during the campaigns, and we have seen how you are pursuing the issue of peace We know how passionate you are, but if you don’t have the troops to deploy, you are reduced to just passing information, and if it is not acted upon, then what do you do?
He accused President Tinubu of instead of helping the masses that brought him to power kept increasing untold hardships to the common man
Al’amin faulted President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms which he said the reforms are of dashing hopes, of the electorate by creating pain and causing despair among Nigerians with the administration’s economic policies.
” some of the people’s economic policies included removal of fuel subsidy and allowing the fuel price to continue to increase day by day causing untold hardships to the common man every day, increasing price of electricity, increasing tax, and interest in banks, and the price of the essentials commodities keep increasing daily which makes it difficult for a common man to have a three meal square, inflation increased to over 33.5 percent while the government remains adamant.”
He said Tinubu’s poor response to the country’s challenges was setting the stage for a prolonged and deeper economic crisis. Al’amin a one-time Chairman of the defunct AD, said the performance of the economy had in recent weeks and months been the subject of intense discourse among Nigerians at home and abroad.
He said, Tinubu’s economic policies, drawn from the so-called “Renewed Hope Agenda”, are causing more agony in the land. He said the private sector was shrinking by the day, as small businesses were being emasculated and multinational companies were confused and weary of the economy, and leaving Nigeria in droves.
“The intense cost of living pressures have created more misery for the poor in towns and villages. There is hunger in the land, as basic commodities, including bread, are becoming out of reach for average Nigerians.
“His 2024 budget is a business-as-usual exercise, bereft of concrete ideas and actions that would support Nigeria’s journey toward economic transformation – consisting mainly of wasteful expenditures to cater to a bloated federal government.
“Budget 2024 will not facilitate growth and cannot empower our citizens to earn a living and live a decent life.
He maintained that Tinubu had shown no capacity to deal with the adverse and disastrous effect of the new subsidy regime on the people and businesses, and the new foreign exchange policy, which provides for a free-floating exchange rate.
“His initiatives are uninformed, arbitrary, and chaotic. BAT’s palliatives are too mean, pitiable, and contemptuous of the poor.
He seems genuinely lost, bewildered, and overwhelmed.”. “Tinubu and his economic management team must swallow their pride, admit their missteps and failures, and follow those who know the terrain,”
“They must act fast before the economy sinks deeper into the abyss,” he added.
He said Tinubu failed to do anything in the areas of Health care and education due to the high cost of everything poor men cannot afford to go to the hospital or to take their children to school due to the high cost of living. Nigeria is becoming a lawless country, due to insecurity, poor economic policies, high cost of living, and maladministration.
He drew the attention of President Tinubu to fear Allah, pity the common man, and do away with bad economic policies in the best interest of the country.
