APC COMMENDS ZAMFARA GOVT OVER  FINANCIAL SUPPORT TO 4,410 VULNERABLE PERSONS

The Zamfara Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has commended Zamfara 

government for providing financial support to 4,410 vulnerable persons under its poverty alleviation programme.

State APC Chairman, Alhaji Tukur Umar Danfulani made the commendation in Gusau at the launching of Social Protection Electoral Advocacy Campaign.

The event was organized by Zamfara Social Protection Platform in collaboration with the Coalition of Social Protection Civil Society Organizations being supported by an NGO, Save the Children International (SCI).

Danfulani represented by the state APC Publicity Secretary, Malam Yusuf Idris Gusau noted that, the APC led-administration in the state has commenced its monthly poverty alleviation programme targeting 4,410 beneficiaries across the state.

“As we are all aware, last week a total of 4,410 vulnerable individuals comprising males and females received N10,000 each across the state under the state government poverty alleviation programme.

“In each of the 147 political wards in the state, 30 persons have been selected to receive monthly financial support of N10,000 under the programme”, he said.

According to him, the programme is inline with the manifestos of the APC as well as fulfilment of campaign promises of Gov Matawalle’s administration.

According to him, the APC led-administration in the state since inception have been giving priority to social protection policies and programmes.

“As we know, Gov Matawalle recently signed three social protection related bills passed by the state house of assembly in to laws.

“We appreciate the governor for signing Social Protection, Child Protection and Disability bills in to laws.

“We believe they will help in reducing poverty and vulnerability among people of the state”, he added.

In his remarks, the Advocacy and Communication Officer of the SCI, Mr Nura Muhammad said the NGO will continue to engage various stakeholders in the state to promote social protection.

Earlier speaking, the state Chairman Zamfara Social Protection Platform, Malam Nasiru Biyabiki said the meeting was aim to involve political parties and their candidates contesting various political positions in the 2023 general elections.

“We want our political leaders to assimilate the idea of using social protection as a means of addressing poverty and vulnerability”, Biyabiki said.

The meeting was attended by leaders of Inter Party Advisory Committee (IPAC), representatives of political parties and their candidates, traditional and religious institutions women and youths groups and the media among others.
