Attacks: CSOs demand review of Katsina peace deals
A coalition of Civil Society Organisations in Katsina State has urged a thorough reassessment of peace agreements with armed groups across affected parts of the state.
In a statement on Thursday, spokesperson for the coalition, Dahiru Rafindadi, cited renewed attacks on Farun Bala, Dandume and Jikamshi communities as justification for the call.
He said the review aimed to strengthen and sustain peace, preventing further breakdown of agreements reached between authorities and armed groups.
Rafindadi urged President Bola Tinubu to intervene urgently following attacks that reportedly claimed several lives in the affected communities.
“The coalition expresses deep sorrow and grave concern over the recent attacks, which left many residents dead and others injured,” he said.
The group condemned the assaults as “senseless acts” that have plunged communities once again into mourning and fear.
Rafindadi said the violence marked a setback to fragile peace achieved through earlier initiatives between authorities and armed groups.
“The resurgence of violence is alarming and raises serious concerns about the sustainability of peace efforts,” he said.
He warned the attacks threatened farming activities, livelihoods and food security as communities prepare for the wet season.
Rafindadi said continued bloodshed had instilled fear, disrupted daily life and undermined socio-economic stability across affected communities.
He stressed that urgent and decisive action was required, noting that “every life lost to banditry is unacceptable”.
He called on all tiers of government to collaborate decisively to tackle the escalating security crisis.
The spokesperson urged President Tinubu to take immediate steps to address worsening insecurity across the North-West and North-East geopolitical zones.
Rafindadi called for comprehensive security measures, stressing forces must be equipped, supported and empowered to protect lives and property.
“The coalition urges National Assembly members to raise their voices and ensure constituents’ concerns are heard at the federal level.

“To our representatives, this is not a moment for silence. The urgency demands prioritising the crisis and advocating concrete action,” he said.
He acknowledged efforts by Gov. Dikko Radda and local council chairmen, urging them to sustain momentum in tackling insecurity.
According to Rafindadi, the coalition stands in solidarity with affected communities and extended condolences to bereaved families.
He urged residents to remain united and resilient while calling for swift action from all stakeholders to restore peace.
“The safety and dignity of our people must remain paramount. The time to act is now,” he said.
