Bauchi Speaker resigned to pave way for ex- speaker Sulaiman to step in

The Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Babayo Akuyam and his deputy Ahmed Abdullahi have voluntarily resigned from their positions to pave way ex Speaker Abubakar Sulaiman and his Deputy Jamilu Dahiru, step in as Speaker and Deputy respectively.

Our correspondent reports that the former Speaker Sulaiman and his Deputy Dahiru November 2023 their election was nullified by court of appeal in Abuja as members of the State assembly orders for rerun in some polling units in their various constituency

The rerun was conducted on 3rd 4th of Feb. 2024 The Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) has declared the former Speaker and his Deputy winners of the rerun election for their constituencies.

The former Speaker Sulaiman represented Ningi Central state constituency PDP , while his Deputy represented Bauchi central state constituency PDP.

The outgoing speaker Akuyam represent Hardawa constituency and his deputy Abdullahi represent Dass constituency announced their resignation at the plenary on Wednesday in Bauchi

Akuyam said the move is part of the agreement reached by the lawmakers to step down the former Speaker and his deputy after winning rerun.

He appreciated their colleagues and other staff of the assembly for the support and cooperation given to them during their stewardship.

Meanwhile the re-elected speaker Sulaiman and his deputy appreciated the outgoing speaker for keeping the promise.

Sulaiman thanked the outgoing speaker and his deputy for exhibiting a high sense of maturity while discharging their legislative duties.

He pledged his readiness to continue to provide effective legislations that will better the lives of the citizenry.
